Flag Raising

June 24, 2019 by Saskia

Monday, August 19th
Time: 10 am
Location: Minden Hills Municipal Building
9 Milne Street

Celebrate the kick-off of our own Minden Pride week of events with the flag raising, then enjoy refreshments across the street at Up River Trading.

Musical entertainment provided by The Minden Pride Players, with conductor Daniel Manley and musicians from the Highlands Chamber Orchestra and Highlands Wind Symphony.

Did you know that the rainbow flag may have been inspired by Judy Garland’s singing “Over the Rainbow” and the Stonewall riots that happened a few days after Garland’s death? Judy was one of the first gay icons.

Singer/songwriter and columnist, Jerelyn Craden, will sing “Over the Rainbow”, accompanied by guitarist Rob Muir, as the Rainbow flag is officially raised over our municipal building.

JERELYN CRADEN is a singer/ songwriter, stand-up comedienne, novelist: “Vessie Flamingo Outshining the Moon,” columnist: “Maybelle’s Fireside Stories,” Echo; ACTRA award winning television writer: “Clowns;” NCRA award recipient for her original comedy radio series: “Fireside Stories from Lake WhaddayathinkImean,” CanoeFM;  singer with the Highlands Swing Band; and certified social media consultant. She has voiced hundreds of television and radio commercials, jingles, plus animation series including: “Inspector Gadget,”  “Strawberry Shortcake” and “C.O.P.S.”

ROB MUIR is a life-long musician, studying piano before discovering the guitar. His greatest influences include the virtuoso stylings of Django Reinhardt, the layered ragtime of Gary Davis, and the consummate style of Chet Atkins.
